To help tap into the deep well of talent within the Academy, the Board has expressed particular interest in engaging qualified colleagues who have not previously served on the Board. Also, as always, the AACN Board seeks individuals with perspectives that may not be reflected in the current board composition.
All prospective candidates being reviewed by the Nominations Committee are vetted on their current standing with AACN (i.e., their dues are current) and ABPP (i.e., they are current with their attestation payment). They must also provide a vita and affirmative understanding and acceptance of the requirements and expectations of board service.
The Nominations Committee reviews the candidates. Because slates can differ widely, the review considerations can also vary at the discretion of committee members. Considerations often include but are not limited to:
- Fit with the slate description
- Service orientation and leadership potential
- Ability to work productively in groups even on challenging or controversial topics
- Ability to bring fresh ideas and energy to the board
- Absence of clear conflict of interest
