Get Involved with STAC

Thank you for your interest in the STAC! Our committee is structured using subcommittees. So each member is assigned to a subcommittee based on need and then we meet annually for updates from the subcommittees and to give everyone an opportunity to participate in all the committee activities. The STAC meets every year at INS and at the AACN annual meeting (in person attendance at these meetings is not required). At AACN the STAC hosts two major events, the Student Series and the Student & Training Directors’ Hour, where help from STAC members is always needed. Details are reviewed as the events approach.

The STAC reviews articles for The Clinical Neuropsychologist student paper contest all throughout the year, and each member will be asked to participate as a reviewer on one or more of the papers. Committee members also participate in the review of applications for the Student Travel Scholarships and Conference volunteers We also have a subcommittee that selects the Student Representatives to the AACN Board of Directors and Communications Committee (unless of course the member is an applicant or has other conflicts of interest). We also maintain the student website, run the mentorship program for AACN, and plan the student programming at the annual meeting including the Training Directors Hour and Student Series lectures. We also have committees managing the committee membership and a communications subcommittee which manages the STAC communications via social media, the AACN website, and the listserv.

These activities are crucial to the success of the committee and AACN, so to do a quality job takes a great deal of time and effort, in addition to everyone’s very busy daily routines. So it is very important and required that each committee member actively participates in different aspects when called upon. The biggest portion of our work is done in the spring (particularly March-May), but some tasks continue throughout the year (e.g., the TCN paper competition).  As such, if a committee member becomes unresponsive to email requests for help and/or no longer participates, then that individual will be removed from the committee. This is to ensure we have an active group of committed participants that support the mission of the STAC.

We appreciate you are likely very busy, so thank you again for your interest in joining the STAC! If after considering this information, you believe the STAC is a good fit for your goals and effort you are able to allocate, please respond to the questionnaire at the link below and let us know which subcommittee is the best fit for you.
