Student Representative to the Board of Directors Application

Dear Applicant,

Thank you for your interest in the position of student representative to the American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology (AACN) Board of Directors (BOD).  The term is from May 1 to April 30 each year, and all trainees (graduate students, interns, and postdoctoral fellows) with active student member status in AACN are invited to apply.

The student representative is expected to:

  • Participate in on-site board meetings at the annual AACN conference (typically held in June) and the North American Meeting of the International Neuropsychological Society (typically held in February) during the year-long term.
  • Meet leaders in the field and discuss important topics that arise in the organization and in the field as a whole.
  • Provide ideas from the student’s perspective to the BOD, and participate (as a non-voting member) in discussion of all action items presented to the BOD through both in-person meetings and email-based conversations.
  • Participate as a member of an AACN committee (e.g., contribute to the development and maintenance of AACN social media through the Public Professional Information Committee).
  • Assist with the development, planning, and implementation of student activities at the annual AACN conference through participation in the Student Affairs Committee.
  • Participate in governance in preparation for various leadership opportunities in the field.
  • Be an ambassador for AACN to reach out to trainees in neuropsychology regarding opportunities in leadership, training and research.
  • Promote the AACN Student Affairs Committee and all of its efforts.
  • Become active in the field and contribute to a prominent organization in neuropsychology.

Currently, the student representative to the AACN BOD receives $500 travel deferment for participating (on site) in each of the two annual meetings. The student representative also receives free registration to the annual AACN meeting. Past student representatives to the AACN BOD continue to be active in various roles within committees in AACN.
