Job Description

As part of the Acclaim team, our neuropsychologists assess, diagnose and treat patients with behavioral, psychiatric or cognitive disorders resulting primarily from brain injury or disease. They provide a broad range of comprehensive neuropsychological services (e.g. full battery and brief assessments, interventions and psychoeducation) in both clinical and research environments, addressing a broad range of complex issues that span the full range of neurocognitive disorders and traumatic brain injuries, as well as comorbid psychiatric and medical conditions.

Specialized neuropsychological training and expertise, outstanding critical thinking skills, the ability to communicate effectively with both patients and colleagues, and the ability to manage multi-disciplinary collaborations are all important to the provision of these high-quality neuropsychological services.

Responsibilities:

This neuropsychologist will:

  • Independently conduct a wide-range of neuropsychological services that includes, but is not limited to, assessment of cognitive, emotional, psychological and behavioral functional issues.
  • Work in consultation with interdisciplinary team members to inform diagnosis, treatment planning and evaluation of treatment outcomes.
  • Provide screening for cognitive deficits to address specific functional questions or to determine whether a complete neuropsychological evaluation is needed and/or make referrals for appropriate services in order to meet the medical needs of the patient.
  • Perform capacity evaluations when there are questions about a patient’s medical decision-making capacity, or the ability to live independently or perform other specific functions. Provide recommendations on findings to interdisciplinary clinical teams, patients, and their family members or careproviders.
  • Provide clinical neuropsychological supervision for psychology interns, practicum students and psychiatry residents.
  • Provide neurocognitive didactics for psychology interns, practicum students, residents in psychiatry, faculty and other medical professionals.
  • Where necessary, lead others in solving complex clinical and administrative service-related problems; use sophisticated analytical approaches that include exercising appropriate judgment and identifying innovative solutions in addressing challenges that arise in the course of the work.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) at the time the program was completed OR, a doctoral degree in any area of psychology with additional successful completion of a respecialization program in an APA or an APPIC accredited doctoral program; 2 years of post-graduate experience preferred.
  • Internship Requirement: Successful completion of a professional psychology internship that was accredited by APA or APPIC at the time the program was completed and that is consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed.
  • Strong background in neuropsychological / psychological assessment as part of formal PhD or post-graduate training: Post doctoral training in neuropsychology preferred; APA accreditation as a neuropsychologist preferred. Alternatively, we will provide neuropsychologist training for the successful candidate.

Licensure Requirement: At the time of application, candidates must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in the State of Texas OR be eligible for Texas Board licensure as outlined by the Texas Board of Examiners of Psychologists. Neurobehavior North, Inc. is a private practice located in Palmer, Alaska. We are currently looking to hire a second neuropsychologist to keep up with increasing demands for clinical and forensic neuropsychological evaluation services. We are currently providing services to geriatric, adult, and older adolescent individuals. However, opportunities for pediatric evaluations are also available for candidates with appropriate background and training. Currently, the practice is taking primarily clinical referrals with increasing opportunities for IME/forensic evaluations. The University of Chicago’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience is searching for a full-time faculty member at any rank. The appointee will provide assessment, diagnostic, and consulting neuropsychological services to children, adolescents, and emerging adults presenting with medical illnesses (e.g., cancers, brain tumors, epilepsies, diabetes), neurodevelopmental and neurogenetic disorders (e.g., intellectual disability syndromes, ASD, NF-1), and comorbid psychiatric conditions, in both outpatient and inpatient settings. Position Details and Responsibilities:

·         Accountable for providing general and specialized neuropsychological services to patients and families, including assessment of the relationship between brain function and behavior in collaboration with the healthcare team and others in the community

·         Clinical responsibilities include primarily outpatient neuropsychological evaluations of infants, children, adolescents to young adults with known or suspected cognitive or neurological dysfunction, who have a variety of medical conditions affecting brain functioning and neurodevelopment, with a potential for some cross-coverage with our inpatient specialists on the various hospital units

·         Familiarity with the following populations is preferred: Traumatic Brain Injury/Acquired Brain Injury, Neurosurgery, Epilepsy, Oncology, Cardiology, history of ICU hospitalization and respiratory compromise, infections of the brain, vascular disorders, and other medical conditions that may affect brain functioning

·         Responsible for assessment of neurodevelopmental conditions including, but not restricted to ADHD, Learning Disorders, Developmental Disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorders, genetic conditions, etc., as part of our neurodevelopmental program

·         Familiarity with neuroimaging is preferred but not required

·         The successful applicant should be comfortable collaborating with members of our neuropsychology/neurodevelopmental team, in addition to specialists from other programs within our Neuroscience division (Neurosurgery, Neurology), in addition to other Valley Children’s Healthcare programs and divisions

·         Clinical instruction opportunities exist

·         Limited teaching and research opportunities are available with our medical residents and medical students who are affiliated with Stanford Medical Center, although this position is predominantly clinical

Requirements:

·         PhD in Psychology from an APA accredited clinical psychology graduate program or equivalent

·         APA or equivalently accredited internship with a pediatric neuropsychology focus with 2-year postdoctoral fellowship in pediatric clinical neuropsychology preferred

·         Clinical experience with medical, neurodevelopmental and neuropsychiatric populations is preferred

·         Eligibility to sit for ABPP, ABN in clinical neuropsychology

·         Focus on pediatric clinical neuropsychology is necessary

·         Five (5) years of postdoctoral experience in clinical neuropsychology with an emphasis on pediatric practice is preferred

·         California license or immediate eligibility for licensure in California is required.

·         Bilingual Spanish is preferred
